It was a golden weekend for the Dragons at the 2015 Regionals
Over the March 28 weekend, Dorchester teams brought home gold medals in every division.
Here is an overview of each team:
Dorchester’s U9 Ringette Team took gold at Western Regionals in Guelph. What an exciting end to a great season. These 11 girls had a fun year, on and off the ice, and have shown a lot of strength, skill and teamwork in their game. Coaches Tanya Beattie & Sean Baker, Trainer Paul White and Team Manager Liz O’Brien would like to thank parents for their dedication and support to this awesome sport. Congratulations U9 Girls!

This enthusiastic team played some of the most exciting games of the season where they won against Elora-Fergus(6-3) ,Guelph(6-4) and had a disappointing loss to Waterloo(5-3) – their first and only loss of the season. After some swimming, a pizza party and a good night’s sleep, the Dragon’s faced Waterloo again and redeemed themselves for a 2-0 win and a gold medal. Congratulations to all the players who gave their best and showed the fans some exciting ringette. Thank you coaches for your time, encouragement and incredible team spirit.
Over the March 28 weekend, the Dorchester U12R team participated in the year end Regional Tournament in Guelph and brought home the gold medal.
The team came out strong on Friday for their first game against London and because of fantastic teamwork and an outstanding defense they came out with a 7-4 win.
The second game on Friday had the girls pitted against a strong Kitchener Team but they managed to another very well played game and came out on top 8-5.
Saturday brought the last game in the round robin format and the team knew they would have a big challenge to beat the 2-0 Elora/Fergus Squad. After getting behind 3-0 in the first period, the girls turned on the after burners and scored 4 unanswered goals to win the game 4-3. They were undefeated and on the way to the gold medal on Sunday.
For the gold medal game, Dorchester was up against Elora/Fergus again and knew they would have to play hard as the opponents would be out for blood after the loss on Saturday. Just at the right time the girls had the game of their season; passing, checking and playing their best brought them the gold medal, winning 7-3.
A big thank you goes out to the coaching staff Sue Spencer and Barry Trevnicek for their hard work and dedication to the girls this season and to our Sponsor, Adrian’s No Frills.

The Dorchester U16 Ringette team traveled to Guelph this past weekend for the year end Regional Tournament. This annual weekend caps off the entire season with teams from all over southwestern Ontario. Because of the girls’ first place season record, they played in the championship pool against the top teams in the region. The round robin games were all very close with Dorchester securing first place after 3 wins and a tie. This put them in the championship game against Mitchell, the only team who had beat them this year. The local girls played their best game of the year, dominating the game from the beginning. Both goalies were outstanding, making some of the best saves of the tournament. But Dorchester managed to net one in the second half and Mitchell could not come back, even when there were two
Dorchester girls in the penalty box! Way to go girls!
This was the girls’ fourth and final tournament of the year. They earned gold in all four plus they won the banner for top team during league play! But this amazing group of girls would not have a season like this if it weren’t for the great bench staff of coach Lenore Vandertuin, assistant coaches Michael Plant and Steve Reiger and trainers Kendra Dunn and Karen Kummer. The team thanks all the parents, grandparents, fans and sponsors Flagswipe Paintball for another successful season!
The U7s don’t participate in the Regional weekend, but the team had an incredible year of growth. For many of these players it was their first year playing ringette or even being on skates. By the end of the season all of the kids were skating, passing the ring and learning the fundamentals of the game. Well done U7 Dragons!
